Course Program
Lesson 1
Seeing and Drawing the Basics
Start with a pre-instruction drawing—a valuable way to track your progress.
Learn to "see" like an artist: switch off the left brain and turn on the right.
Master volume drawing with chiaroscuro tonal zones as you build and hatch basic geometric shapes: a cylinder, a ball, and a cube.
Create a viewfinder to help place and frame objects, then apply your skills in a guided still life drawing.
Lesson 2
Negative Space
Negative Space Observation – Train your eye to see the spaces around and between objects rather than the objects themselves.
Negative Space Drawing Exercise – Choose a simple subject (e.g., a plant, a stool, or a stack of books) and draw only the empty spaces around it.
Applying Negative Space in Composition – Explore how artists use negative space to create balance, depth, and visual interest in their work.
Lesson 3
Spaces and Landscapes
Sharpen your observation with warm-up exercises, like upside-down drawing.
Explore interiors by drawing a chair in space, inspired by Van Gogh.
Use negative space as a powerful tool to define objects.
Apply your techniques to a landscape, learning mark-making and aerial perspective while creating a scene with a bridge.
Lesson 4
Self-Portrait Masterpiece
Get in the creative zone with targeted warm-ups.
Learn the fundamentals of portrait drawing, focusing on proportion and structure.
Create a self-portrait that brings together everything you’ve learned throughout the course.
Reflect on your growth by comparing your pre-instruction drawings with your final piece—prepare to be amazed at how far you’ve come!
